MAKING CS Happen: How Computer Science and Making Go Hand in Hand

Overview

Maker and CS Education go hand-in-hand, though they are often thought of as two separate disciplines. One simply cannot exist without the other.

In this workshop, teachers will have the opportunity to explore how to implement maker education, alongside computer science, in their classrooms by connecting physical making across multiple mediums to physical computing devices such as robots, micro:bits, raspberry pis, and more. Teachers will experience, firsthand, how making addresses many of the Indiana Academic Computer Science standards.

The topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Exploration physical computing
  • Pull out of CS standards
  • Integration of STEM standards related to CS that we can meet with these tasks / goals
  • Creating both digital and analog artifacts
