Student Competitions
Nextech student competitions are an avenue for K-12 individual students and student teams to show off how they use teamwork, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills by building a computer science solution. Each competition runs at a different time during the year and requires a teacher sponsor. And since it’s a competition, prizes are awarded to the winners!
CSforGood
Celebrating and recognizing the unbridled imagination of students across the state, the Nextech CSforGood Competition challenges K-12 Hoosier to innovate, create and build positive change in their schools and local communities via a computer science solution. Teams of students across K-12 are welcome to participate.

Stats Showdown
The sports world is filled with a massive amount of data. And figuring out how to analyze it can be a (literal) game changer. Players, coaches and front office staff build hypotheses, create algorithms and dissect the information to shape their performance both on and off the court, so we want to give teenagers across Indiana the same opportunity to use their critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork skills during the Nextech Stats Showdown. Using real data, students will build an algorium to predict winning teams.
Programming Competition
Built specifically for advanced computer science students, the Nextech Programming Competition challenges teams of 9-12 graders statewide to flex their CS knowledge by answering a set of problems by writing computer programs. Teams will use their collective CS knowledge along with their teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills to complete as many problems as they can within the competition timeframe.

Student Outcomes
Our goal is to build confidence in students’ CS skills and provide an avenue to display creativity and ingenuity. Specifically students will:
- Deepen understanding of how technology can be applied to solve problems
- Deepen technical skills
- Increase interest in pursuing a career in technology
- Increase confidence in my technical / coding abilities
- Increase motivation to pursue a career in technology
Impact
Indiana is #1 in the Midwest for computer science education, and the students that have participated in our competitions since 2019 not only meet expectations, they succeed them.
