Overview
The Computing Foundations for a Digital Age (4565) course is one option for your students to meet the computer science (CS) graduation requirement passed during the 2024 legislative session. For more information on this course and its implementation, please see the Next Level Programs of Study page on the Commission for Higher Education’s website.
Due to the interest in this professional development, we have two options for the summer / fall of 2025. Both professional learning courses align to the Code.org Computer Science and AI Foundations course. This course is being released in the summer of 2025 (it is currently in beta as Foundations of Computer Science). This course is designed by Code.org to meet state graduation requirements.
Code.org’s Computer Science and AI Foundations (CSAIF) curriculum empowers students to explore, understand and harness computer science and AI for real-world problem-solving. Flexible, accessible and engaging, CSAIF equips students with essential computational thinking skills, foundational CS knowledge, responsible technology use and the confidence to create in a technology-driven and AI-enhanced future.
CSAIF is a semester or year-long, modular course that immerses high school students in foundational CS knowledge and hands-on practice with emerging technologies, building durable computational thinking skills while exposing students to the possibilities and impacts of CS and AI. Students learn the fundamentals of networks, cybersecurity, data science, programming in Python, AI concepts and coding, human-centered design and responsible use of technology.
Option 1: Indiana CSPDWeek 2025
If this works in your schedule, please consider joining us for Indiana CSPDWeek! There is a track for this course. Learn more about CSPDWeek 2025 or access the application.
Option 2: Fall 2025
We will be offering a PD similar to what we provided in the spring of 2025 in the Fall of 2025. This professional development will provide just-in-time educator learning to prepare teachers to teach Code.org Computer Science and AI Foundations, which aligns to 4565. Details are still being finalized for our kick off in late summer 2025. If you’d like to reserve a spot and read more, please fill out this brief form.
What You Will Receive in Professional Development
- Curriculum (including teacher lesson plans, a pacing guide, rubrics and examples/exemplars) using Code.org
- All lessons, curriculum and units are aligned to Indiana standards and the competencies for the NLPS Course Computing Foundations for a Digital Age (4565)
- PGP hours and a stipend, regardless of your PD option
Eligibility and Pre-Requisites
This workshop is for any teachers new to teaching computer science that need support and a 4565 curriculum or those who have taught computer science but need support and resources for this course.
Alignment Resource
To assist you in teaching this course, we have created an alignment of the Computing Foundations for a Digital Age (4565) Content Standards and Competencies to the Code.org curriculum.
We recognize that every school has unique needs and have developed three different scope and sequence options for potential use with the 4565 course. These options take into account the need to differentiate the 4565 course (in middle schools) from other computer science courses (and their curriculum) offered to 6th and 7th graders. All alignment options utilize six code.org units to align to the Computing Foundations for a Digital Age (4565).
