Topics in Computer Science

Overview

The new Next Level Programs of Study (NLPS) Topics in Computer Science is designed for students to investigate emerging disciplines within the field of computer science. Students will use foundational knowledge from 7183 Principles of Computing to study the areas of data science, artificial intelligence, app/game development, and security. Students will utilize knowledge related to these areas and programming skills to develop solutions to authentic problems.

Nextech provides professional development activities for Topics in Computer Science pulling together a full-year of standards aligned curricular materials woven together through a single course in an intensive two-day workshop in the summer and follow-up opportunities throughout the school year for teachers to reflect and connect. To get the most of your experience, we’d also suggest considering attending the Bootstrap: Data Science workshop in June 2024.

Eligibility and Pre-Requisites

This workshop is for high school teachers committed to teaching the NLPS Topics in Computer Science (7351) in the 2024-25 school year.

Workshop Details

  • Length: Two days in mid-June to learn about the NLPS course and requirements as well as all possible curricular options. Depending on you and your students’ needs, additional PD is available for various content.
  • Location: Virtual zoom
  • Cost to Participate: $0
  • Dates: Both Thursday, June 20, 2024 AND Friday, June 21, 2024
