Navigate logo

Over 1000 high school students from across the state have joined us the past two years for Nextech Navigate, and we can’t wait to do it again in 2022!

Taking place on November 4, 2022, this free virtual field trip for 9-12 graders is built to educate and inspire high school students about the power of computer science and careers in technology. Navigate 2022 will include an inspiring opening and tons of educational sessions that give students the power to choose the CS topics that interest them the most. All Indiana high school students are welcome regardless of computer science class enrollment and type of school they attend.

We can’t wait to host a jam-packed day. Until then:

  • Register your student group following the process below
  • Send us your list of students as soon as you can
  • Mark it on the school calendar just like a field trip

Registration Process

Registration is a two-step process.

  1. Let us know you want to attend and your estimated student count.
    Register here.
  2. After your registration is confirmed, we will reach out with a request for a CSV file with student first name, student last name, grade, and email address on a provided template. This will allow us to process each student’s registration and provide their unique access link.

All students must be registered by October 17, 2022.

Agenda

All times below are in Eastern Time.

8:45 AM: Doors Open
9:00 AM: Welcome and Opening Panel
9:35 – 10:10 AM: Breakout Session #1
10:25 – 11:00 AM: Breakout Session #2
11:15 – 11:50 AM: Breakout Session #3
12:05 – 12:40 PM: Breakout Session #4
12:45 – 1:00 PM: Closing Session

Note: Based on your feedback, we have removed the scheduled lunch hour since all students / schools are on different schedules and time zones. Instead, we’d suggest students take their regular lunch hour and miss that breakout session, grab lunch and bring it back to the room, or you could schedule their lunch after 1:00 PM Eastern / 12:00 PM Central. By removing the lunch hour, we are ending the conference an hour earlier than we have previously while maintaining the same content.

Student Program Guide 2022

The Student Program Guide will be shared in the middle of October. If we can share the past guides with you to help get approval for attending or talk about the experience with your students, reach out to teachers@nextech.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

This conference is for students in grades 9-12, preferably in Indiana. All students are welcome from public, private, charter or home high schools and do not need to be enrolled in a computer science class. Per any traditional field trip, students will need administrator approval before registering to attend. If you need help or specific information for your administration, please email teachers@nextech.org.

  • Teachers are required to register their students to attend. The registration process is an easy two-step process:
    • Step 1: Teachers will register their students anytime before October 17, 2022.
    • Step 2: Once the registration is complete, Nextech will send the teacher a spreadsheet to fill out, which will include providing the first names, last names and email addresses of their students.
  • During the week of October 24th, each student will receive an invitation for Nextech Navigate 2022 in their inbox. It will include a unique “magic link” that the student will need to use to access the conference. We ask that all teachers do a test run for their students before the event to ensure that students received their invitation for the conference.
  • To test the platform and make sure that it works, you can try the Hopin Pre-Event Check. Though students will not be sharing audio or video during the event, this tool tests compatibility with firewalls, VPN, and browsers to make sure students can access the conference and will allow you to get assistance from your IT team earlier than the day of the event.
  •

Nextech Navigate will be on Hopin, an awesome online event platform used across the industry. In order to ensure your student can attend, please have your IT department whitelist following these instructions from Hopin.

We’d also suggest using the Hopin Pre-Event Check. Though students will not be sharing audio or video during the event, this tool tests compatibility with firewalls, VPN, and browsers to make sure students can access the conference and will allow you to get assistance from your IT team earlier than the day of the event.

It will be a full day, which will elapse the majority of the school day. The doors will open at 8:45 AM ET and the opening presentation and panel will start at 9:00 AM ET. From there, the day will move into breakout sessions where a student will be able to select the sessions that interest them most. We will end at 1 PM ET

We will not have a planned break for lunch since all school schedules are different. We encourage you to find the lunch option that works best for your school, either missing a session or a portion of a session, packing lunch and eating in the classroom, or planning for lunch after the conference ends.

Students can attend from school, home or anywhere with strong wifi and access to a computer. Each student will need to attend on their individual device in order to participate in their selected breakouts and will be given an individual invitation.

Nope, it is absolutely free to attend. No cost to the student, teacher or school.

The content for the day will be tailored for high school students, but teachers will enjoy it as well. After the event, we will be able to share granular tracking data to each teacher letting you know where and what your students attended.

We will provide lesson plans for before, after, and during Navigate for you to use with your students. They will be shared closer to the date of the conference.
