Programming Competition LogoAre you ALL IN on computer science? Do you want to show off your programming skills?

The Nextech Programming Competition challenges 9-12 graders statewide to flex their CS knowledge by answering a set of problems by writing computer programs. The Competition is all about creating answers for as many problems as possible within the competition timeframe. The winners will house the traveling Nextech Programming Competition trophy, and the school with the most teams participating will win a pizza party!

And there’s a bonus! Participating in the Nextech Programming Competition will help prepare students for their AP CSA exam.

Various Programming Competitions, both asynchronous and team-based, will take place throughout the school year.

How will Indiana's first Programming Competition work?

  • Teams of 2-4 students can participate. All teams must be sponsored by a teacher or school staff member from their school, and a school can sponsor an unlimited number of teams.
  • On or before April 14, 2022, the online competition system will be available for teams to test submitting an (easy) practice problem.
  • On April 21, 2022, teams and their teacher/staff sponsor will gather at their school, use their unique login to access the competition system and get ready for the competition to start at 4:30pm EST.
  • Once the competition begins, teams will have 60 minutes to program and answer as many questions as they can. The problems will range in difficulty with some anticipated to be quite challenging for HS students. The competition will end at 5:30pm EST.
  • Scoring is quite easy! Teams will receive full credit for a correct answer, no credit for not answering and a penalty for an incorrect answer. Points are also awarded based on how much time it took a team to submit their solution to a problem.
  • Need (almost) instant gratification? The winner of the Nextech Programming Competition will be announced around 6:00pm EST.

Let's talk about Prizes!

Teams and schools are both eligible for prizes:

  • The winning team will house the traveling Nextech Programming Competition trophy
  • The school with the most teams participating will win a pizza party

Plus there will be some fun prizes awarded for creativity, teamwork and other categories!

All teams need to register by Friday, April 8, 2022.
