Data Science is a hot new computer science field that is both exciting and easy to learn. Help your students learn fundamental data science concepts, foster their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and empower them to explore the world through a data-driven lens.
Target Audience: 6-8
What’s Included
- Activity 1: Understanding Data Science – A fun, hands-on activity where students will categorize and collect items based on a specific category (e.g., different stages of a plant life cycle, artifacts from the Civil War time period, etc.) and present their findings to the class.
- Activity 2: Structuring Data – Students first look at how presenting data in different ways can help people to understand it better, and they then create visualizations of their own data.
- Activity 3: Creating and Interpreting Graphs – Students will practice making conclusions from charts and learn to use the Data Visualizer in App Lab to create two different kinds of charts: a bar chart, and a histogram.
- Activity 4: Analyzing Data – Students discuss how data relationships can inform decisions and how to graph information based on similar groupings.
- Activity 5: Creating Infographics – This activity helps students put everything they have learned about data science and analyzing data into a single informative graphic that helps them get their thoughts across while also giving them autonomy in their creativity.
