How would you explain computer science to someone is completely unaware of the subject?

It is problem solving, creativity, and critical thinking, and is probably one of the most broadly applicable and relevant disciplines that exist today.

If you could correct one misconception about Computer Science, what would it be?

I feel like many students are under the assumption that computer science is only for a select few or that you have to fit into a particular mold to be successful in computer science coursework/careers. Hopefully through positive promotion of computer science education, we (as educators) can highlight the collaborative and creative nature of computer science to gain the interest of a wide variety of students.

Please tell us about a hobby or interest you have?

I like to play golf. I was probably about 10 years old or so when I first started playing and have continued to play ever since.

My high school choir teacher probably had the most impact on my life. It was very apparent that he really cared about teaching and working with student, and he definitely helped me grow as both a musician and a person.

Why do you think it is important for students to take Computer Science courses?

Computer science is relevant to seemingly every occupation and discipline. In today’s world, learning computer science is part of becoming a well-rounded, productive member of society.
