Workforce Development Week
September 2nd, 2016
Today marks day two of Workforce Development Week in Indiana. Governor Pence declared the statewide celebration to highlight the ongoing work and accomplishments that build, sustain and grow Indiana’s economy.
Nextech understands and values the key role a skilled workforce plays, especially in the technology sector. Developing and maintaining technology, which is essential for individuals and businesses to thrive, requires a highly trained and specialized workforce. Computer and IT-related jobs continue to grow nationally and in Central Indiana, making it increasingly important to focus on developing talent to satisfy current workforce demands and projected workforce needs.
While workforce needs continue to grow, thousands of Hoosier youth lack access to the opportunities that can create interest in computing and develop skill sets necessary to fill needs of the technology sector.
Enter Nextech. Our goal is to narrow the gap between computer-related employment opportunities and the number of individuals pursuing those opportunities by transforming today’s K-12 students from mere consumers of technology to the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs and tech giants.
We are committed to engage with tech employers to understand their workforce needs and partner with K-12 educators to align computer science curriculum and student experiences accordingly. By doing so, we hope to inspire a generation of Indiana students and prepare the community to meet a growing demand for a workforce of qualified technology professionals.
And so we proudly join the Workforce Development Week celebration and look forward to advancing Indiana as a great place to live and work for generations to come.
