Sustained Passion for Education
May 5th, 2015
To understand where Nextech is going, it’s important to first consider where we’ve been. In 2011, the ExactTarget Foundation was established as the philanthropic arm of the ExactTarget corporation. From the beginning, one of the key focus areas of the Foundation was to provide students of all backgrounds access to quality education. To that end, we supported organizations that advanced learning through technology and maintained a focus on bringing high-quality education to young people all over the world. Over the course of two years, the Foundation awarded over $290K in grants to support education programs benefiting tens of thousands of students. These are a just a few of the highlights:
- $100K was awarded to Charles A. Tindley Accelerated Schools – whose educational approach is encapsulated in their bold motto, College or Die – to fund an assortment of academic, athletic, and other extracurricular programs. Specifics included a new school library, athletic uniforms, computer carts, resurfacing of an outdoor track, and musical instruments.
- In May of 2011, all open classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org for Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and Indianapolis charter schools were funded to provide educational opportunities for students in central Indiana. With a donation of $80K, 118 open projects were funded, impacting 50 schools, 99 teachers, and nearly 11,000 students. Of the 118 projects, 100 were for schools reporting the highest level of poverty in the Indianapolis area.
- Additionally, the Foundation helped students continue learning at home by providing high speed internet access to lower income families. Through Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Indiana, fifty paid subscriptions to Comcast’s Internet Essentials program – the nations’ largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program – were granted.
Whether at school or at home, the ExactTarget Foundation committed to providing the resources and support today’s students need to become tomorrow’s leaders. Nextech will carry on this tradition with new and innovative programs to impact students both inside and outside the classroom, with a keen focus on arming today’s youth with the tools they need to be successful in a fast-paced and continuously evolving digital world.
